Family Life Theory.

The Science of Family Occupations (SoFO) marries Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. Embedded in Humanities and Science viewing family life holistically, SoFO provides a "seat at the multi-disciplinary table" for OT's to make their mark and contribute to family occupations for research, education and practice, making the connection for clinicians and families. © 2012-2025 Stacy Sue Rosello. Putting Family Life Theory into Evidence-Based Practice

The Science of Family Occupations (SoFO) considers over 25+ years of multi-disciplinary evidence-informed qualitative and quantitative research on family and includes strong roots in the humanities and sciences to create a framework for family life embracing Occupational Science (OS). SoFO highlights the importance of relational exchanges and embodies participation in routines and rituals as part of family occupations. SoFO embeds OS promoting a rich occupation-based lens to family life. And, to truly develop family-centered practitioners, SoFO conceptualizes and defines inclusion of family in practice in a myriad of ways in assessment and intervention. Guiding practitioners and Occupational Scientists, SoFO develops depth and meaning of "doing, being, belonging and becoming" within family occupations as part of healthy family living. SoFO also analyzes the affiliations of family occupations and family-centered practice. Fueling application from clinical practice to daily everyday living, SoFO gives tangible constructs to understand family life and provides strategies toward collective occupational performance. SoFO has potential to charge scholarly evidenced-based practice in OT and give greater meaning for academicians to family occupations in OS. © 2012-2025 Stacy Sue Rosello. All rights reserved..
